Sky News CO2 Rebreather Incident |
|
www.hse.gov.uk/diving/video/co2video.htm |
|
This video made
by SKY news shows real footage of an incident where a rebreather diver
suffers from Carbon Dioxide poisoning. The video takes the viewer through
the incident, explaining how it came about and the lessons that can be
learnt. Whilst the video is primarily aimed at rebreather divers, there are
issues such as bail-out gas consumption, team size and rescue that may be
useful to all divers. |

RNLI Sea Safety |

"Even with
perfect conditions, diving like any other water sport can go wrong. Whatever
your diving experience, why not give us a chance to see if we can help you
make your sport safer and all the more enjoyable? For every accident that is
beyond the control of those involved, there are so many that could have been
easily prevented with better preparation and planning. We have lots to offer
and a vast experience to call on; it's all there waiting for you." |

Stupid Diver Tricks |
|
www.stupiddivertricks.com |
|
Some personal opinion from the owner of this web site, which
needs to be treated carefully but this site is a light hearted look
at diving. To quote the web page “StupidDiverTricks.com brings you real-life
stories of divers who seek to improve the human gene pool by attempting to
remove themselves from it…in the most pathetic ways imaginable.” |

wikiscuba |
|
www.wikiscuba.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page |
|
Relatively new but should grow into a useful resource,
written by divers. In fact anyone can add to a Wiki like this - find an area
that you know about where no one has contributed and you can write it. If
you find something on the site that is wrong you can change it as long as
you are sure the correction should be done. |

www.isle-of-man.com |
|
(click on the tabs local life then basking shark watch from
the isle-of-man home page) is the Manx Wildlife Trust’s Basking Shark web
page and contains some interesting information on Basking Sharks off the
Isle of Man Coast – we really need to organise a trip. |

British

www.bdsg.org |
|
The British Diving
Safety Group (BDSG) was formed in 2002 to promote safe diving practices
amongst the British sport diving community. Currently chaired by the RNLI,
the group has a broad representation, with all of the UK diver training
agencies, the HSE, the MCA and the professional charter-boat skipper
organisations having a seat at the table. |

UK Divers |
|
www.ukdivers.net |
|
A great source of
information for UK divers.
Check UK dive sites, equipment regulations and information and a glossary of
terminology. Other pages contain current weather and tidal information and
current news. |

Scottish Diving Medicine |
|
www.sdm.scot.nhs.uk |
|
Provides information,
aimed at a lay audience, about diving related illness, with particular
reference to decompression illness, how to avoid it and how to deal with it.
There is a FAQ section where users can post a question and answers are
provided online. The site is published by the Scottish Association for
Marine Science (SAMS). |

A1 Surf |
|
www.a1surf.com |
|
A site primarily aimed at
surfers. Of interest to us divers are the water surface temperatures and
tide details for several places around the UK including Hells Mouth on the
Llyn Peninsula, which is handy for those Pwllheli trips and is also probably
not far off the general sea temperature around our coast. For up-to-date
pictures of the general weather conditions there are web cams updated
hourly. Last time I looked it must have been foggy or perhaps that’s just
standard weather in North Wales! |

Irish Wrecks Online |
|
www.irishwrecksonline.net |
|
A contains a list of 9,238
wrecks around the coast of Ireland (Northern and Eire). With that many
wrecks the detail is not always that great but the site does provide a good
starting point for further research. |
|
FreshWater Diver |
|
www.freshwaterdiver.com |
|
This site contains details of most of the dive sites in and
around the Lake District, more or less everything west of the M6 between
junctions 35 and 44. Of particular value is the altitude comparison and list
of roads to avoid due to their altitude. Additionally there is up-to-date
news such as, for example, the removal of the need for permission to dive
Wastwater (not that the absence of permission ever stopped anyone from
diving there). |

Quest Diving Charters, Anglesey |
|
www.questdiving.co.uk |
|
Useful dive
charter company diving from Menai now offering short lead time bookings on
their new powerful Rib. The main interest is that you should be able to book
small numbers at relatively short notice. The Rib can run four trips per day
but is fast enough to get out to some interesting dive sites in that time. |
