News update   15 July 2008 Updated!

Loads of updates on the Club Trips Page. A rough guide below but go to the Club Trips page for more information.

Camp Freddie 3: With a Vengeance
Trearddur Bay August Bank Holiday
Another weekend of camping and diving is being organised for the August Bank Holiday weekend at Trearddur Bay on Anglesey. This time the weather will be perfect (not just great) and we should be able to get quite a few dives and beers in over the weekend.

Camping is at Blackthorn Farm near Trearddur Bay and they have plenty of space for tents. The idea is to book your camping site direct with Blackthorn Farm on 01407 765262 as soon as possible and they will take half of the camping fees using credit card over the phone.

Pitches are £16 per night per tent.

More info on the Club Trips Page

Bridlington 28th and 29th September 2008.
It is going to be 28th / 29th September 2008. The boat is for 12 people, cost will be £80 for 2 days diving plus accommodation, which is about £25 per person per night in a B&B, single, twin, double or family rooms. If people want to do it cheaper there are plenty of camp sites nearby too.

To book your place, have your name put in the diary at the shop with the £80 boat charge, which is non-refundable.

Lochaline 2nd to 6th October 2008
Also advanced notice of this years jaunt to Lochaline which will be taking place over the long weekend from October 2nd to the 6th.  In the past this has been one of the most popular trips of the year. Expect to travel up on the Thursday and return late Sunday or stay an extra night and travel back at leisure on the Monday. Club Trips Page

Annual General Meeting
Monday 3rd March 2008

Starting at 19:30, at The Anchor, Hutton, with food provided. Phone or call into the shop (or both) to have your name put in the diary so we know how many to cater for. Everyone is welcome the only prerequisite being that your membership has been renewed for 2008, so come and have your say about how the club develops in 2008.

All of the existing committee are prepared to stand for another year if anyone else wants to have a go at any of the committee positions then let us know by e-mailing club@fins.org.uk and you will be added to the vote on the night.

The annual awards will be up for grabs and awarded based on the votes of club members in advance of the AGM. The awards are:

Club Diver of the Year , awarded to the person voted to have contributed most to the club over the previous year.

Young Diver of the Year , for anyone under 16 who has been actively involved in club diving activities.

Most Improved Diver, for someone who’s diving has improved considerably.

Numpty Diver, always a close contest this. Do you know someone who has entered the water without weights, fins, mask or air turned on (or all of these at once), left kit at home, basically done something daft? We need to name and shame and present the award, believe me this one will be a close contest this year.

Photograph of the Year, a Fins club related photograph, maybe a club member or a photograph taken on a trip (shop or club). Anything goes but extra points will be given to photographs of UK diving taken in the last 12 or so months. If you have an, or more than one, entry, then e-mail it or them to club@fins.org.uk, to be entered into the competition and posted on the website www.fins.org.uk.

Vote for the above by e-mailing your nomination to club@fins.org.uk

News updates   2nd January 2008

Happy New Year!

There will be a local dive on the 12th and 13th January. This time of year it will probably be at Capernwray but keep an eye out for emails and information nearer the time. Be aware that Capernwray has gone up to £12 per day or £100 for a ten visit ticket book.

On Monday the 4th February Geof and Fiona will be hosting a Photographic Show at The Anchor at Hutton starting at 8pm. Give the shop a ring or drop in to tell them if you are interested to get an idea for numbers. Have a look at some of their photos in the gallery here and here to see what you can look forward to!

News updates   3rd August 2007

Menai 9th September
The Menai dive trip on the 17th June seems to have been judged a great success and there are photos in the gallery in the Anglesey section. If you are interested in the 9th September trip then get down to the shop and put your name down along with a deposit of £45, the cost of the day's diving. Not sure if anyone wants to dive on the Saturday and stay over but please get in touch with Dave Pallant or Ronnie if you are interested since we might be doing some shore diving on the Saturday.

There are some gallery updates from Mike Whittaker in the Hard Hat dive area and a new Thirlmere section. There are also some new photos from Karen Wellings from the April Lochaline trip here.

The Smiths are having a barbeque on September 1st, everyone is invited, adults children, friends and relations, all that is asked is that, if you are going, leave numbers in the shop diary so Simon knows how many to cater for (more of the best cake and biscuits in Lancashire than anyone can eat is guaranteed!).

PROJECT AWARE INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP DAY 15th September
Suggestion is to dive Fellfoot (South end of Windermere) and clean up along the way (underwater as well as on land) – this should be a good day out and given the ability of people to drift upstream we should be able to cover a large area! I expect we (which usually means Paul) will need to check this is OK with some form of official somewhere so for now pencil the date in the diary, more details to follow soon.

Get along to the Anchor at Hutton on Monday the 6th August to have a chat about dive trips.

News updates   25th June 2007

Camp Freddy 21st and 22nd July
July 21st and 22nd there will be a camp and dive in Wales! Click here for more info. There are already eight or nine people interested including several couples and families. The camping is at George's camp site near Y Ffor where he has space for tents and hookups for caravans. There are toilet and washing facilities, all very new, and best of all he has a compressor!

The idea is to get to the site on Friday, dive local shore dives on the Saturday and then dive on Anglesey on the Sunday before setting off home. If anyone is interested then please leave £10 at the shop along with details of numbers of adults and children and the size of your camping gear/motorhome/caravan.

If you are interested or already have your name down get along to the Anchor at Hutton on the 2nd July to get more information on the trip.

News updates   3rd June 2007

Monthly meetings at the Anchor at Hutton will be on the first Monday of each month. Get along to have a chat with other members of the club and discuss diving, equipment, bitch about something or maybe even organise dive trips.

The meetings will be very informal - sounds a bit like the old Wednesday nights after diving at the pool - and will get going about 8.00. Pop along and have a chat!

News updates   19th March 2007

A new section has been added to the gallery with some pictures from the recent York chamber and Standard Dress dives. Have a look here.

I'll add some information about the AGM very soon.

This year an additional category is to be added that of “Photograph of the Year”, this is open to everyone who has taken a Fins Club related picture, whether it be underwater or on the surface (get snapping at the Christmas do, you never know).
